Trump’s top economist defends trade policies, calls Harley-Davidson move an exception

Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said foreign direct investment on American soil “has skyrocketed 10 percent” in the year’s first quarter — a trend he attributed to cuts in the corporate tax rates President Trump signed into law last year. But former White House economic adviser Gary Cohn cautioned that a trade war could wipe out the economic gains of the GOP tax law.
