Facebook reportedly plans to sue Thailand's government over its demand that the company block users within the country from accessing a group critical of its king (FB)

• Facebook is planning to sue Thailand's government after it demanded the company prevent users from accessing a group that criticized the country's king, CNN reported Monday.
• Facebook has complied with the request in the meantime, blocking users in Thailand from seeing posts from the group, "Royalist Marketplace," which has around 1 million users, Reuters reported Monday.
• Pavin Chachavalpongpun, the group's creator and critic of the monarchy who is living in self-imposed exile in Japan, told Business Insider that Facebook's decision to comply "detrimental both to the right to express freely and democracy in this region."
• In the US, Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg have repeatedly attempted to position the company as a defender of free speech, but overseas it has typically been more deferential to autocratic governments.
• The Wall Street Journal also reported this week that Zuckerberg lobbied Trump and members of Congress to take action against rival TikTok on the grounds that its rival wasn't committed to free expression.

Facebook is preparing to take unprecedented legal action against the government of Thailand after it demanded the social media giant block access to a group that had criticized the country's king, CNN reported Monday evening.

Reuters reported earlier in the day that Facebook had heeded the demand to block users within Thailand from accessing the group after the government threatened to take Facebook to court.

• President Donald Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, hit the airwaves Monday as part of a Democratic political action committee's campaign ad urging Americans not to vote for Trump in the November election.
• Later this week, Cohen said, Trump will "stand up and blatantly lie to you. I'm here to tell you he can't be trusted — and you shouldn't believe a word he utters."
• "When you watch the president this week, remember this: if he says something is huge, it's probably small," he added. "If he says something will work, it probably won't."
• Cohen said the president "thinks we are all gullible" and "a bunch of fools," adding, "I was a part of it, and I fell for it. You don't have to like me, but please, listen to me."
• His appearance in Monday's ad comes as Cohen is set to release a new book in which he writes that he was an "active and eager participant" in multiple episodes involving tax fraud, conspiracies, and "golden showers in a sex club in Vegas."

• A federal judge on Sunday placed a hold on a Trump campaign lawsuit that seeks to prevent Pennsylvania from collecting mail-in ballots at drop boxes.
• The Trump campaign had claimed the drop boxes would enable voter fraud, but failed to present any evidence to support its argument.
• US District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan said he would "apply the brakes to this lawsuit" in order to let Pennsylvania courts decide whether the drop boxes are legally permissible.
• A recent poll found that the vast majority of Pennsylvanians who plan to vote by mail intend to vote for former Vice President Joe Biden.
• Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 by less than 45,000 votes.

The Trump campaign's legal effort to stop Pennsylvania from collecting mail-in ballots at statewide drop boxes was placed on hold Sunday by a federal judge that the president himself appointed.
