Facebook said on Wednesday it reached a $550 million settlement in principle related to a lawsuit that claimed it illegally collected and stored biometric data for millions of users without their consent.
The settlement is the largest payment from a company to settle privacy complaints, a press release from the law firms Edelson, Robbins Geller, and Labaton Sucharow noted. The settlement also requires Facebook to obtain full consent from Illinois users before collecting any biometric data.
