What's going on today:
- Congrats to this rat. A landmine-sniffing rat is retiring after 5 years of helping explosives teams clear 20 football fields worth of land. Magawa, the landmine-sniffing rat, was able to comb through areas much faster than his human handlers. He was awarded a medal for his service last year.
- Joe Manchin continues to do his Joe Manchin thing. Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin will oppose the sweeping voting rights legislation back by his party. The For the People Act would end partisan gerrymandering, blunt voter purges, and expand early and absentee voting, among other reforms. On Sunday, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace also grilled Manchin for "being naive" about bipartisanship in his filibuster stance.
- Trump's Facebook ban about violence, not truth. Facebook exec implied Trump's suspension would continue past 2023 if he encouraged violence but not if he spread lies. Facebook Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg said he didn't think a "private company like Facebook" should be tasked with verifying all the content users post for "precise accuracy." Trump responded by calling Facebook's decision to uphold his suspension "abuse."
- Logan Paul, somehow, not knocked out. Logan Paul pulled off the improbable by lasting eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather. The controversial YouTuber couldn't knock Mayweather down or out, but the YouTuber achieved a symbolic victory Saturday in his boxing exhibition.
- Mo-ed down. After months of evading a lawsuit related to the Capitol insurrection, Rep. Mo Brooks was finally served. On Sunday, Swalwell attorney Matthew Kaiser said a private investigator left the papers with Brooks' wife at their home in Alabama. "Well, Swalwell FINALLY did his job, served complaint (on my WIFE). HORRIBLE Swalwell's team committed a CRIME by unlawfully sneaking INTO MY HOUSE & accosting my wife!" Brooks said in a tweet. The lawsuit also names former President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Rudy Giuliani as defendants.
