Popeyes will add nuggets to menus beginning July 27, the chain announced today.

The nuggets will be made of white meat chicken breast battered and breaded in buttermilk. Customers can order nuggets in four-piece to 36 piece options in-store and online. A special 48-nugget option will be available through the Popeyes app. Eight nuggets will be priced at $3.99, which may vary by location.

"Just like our game-changing Chicken Sandwich, our new Chicken Nuggets are unlike anything you may have experienced before. We aim to show the world once again the magic of Popeyes chicken with our new Nuggets. We believe that these pieces of crunchy, juicy delicious chicken will have guests question how they ever enjoyed chicken nuggets before this," President of Popeyes America said in a statement.

The last time Popeyes launched a new chicken product, the chicken sandwich in 2019, it became the fast-food menu item of the year and kick-started the chicken sandwich wars. This time, competitors like Chick-fil-A already have chicken nuggets on their menus. It could still lead to a healthy boost in sales as customers return to try the new dish.

"We have invested the time to perfect a product that leverages our classic techniques and Louisiana flavors that will change how people think about and experience Chicken Nuggets. We think we did it again with Chicken Nuggets," Vice President of Culinary Innovation Amy Alarcon said in a statement.

As chicken prices increase and supply issues cause shortages, Popeyes says nugget fans will have nothing to worry about.

"Over the last six months we have been working closely with our chicken supplier partners to provide them with the estimates needed to meet the anticipated demand of our Chicken Nuggets, and we feel confident we will be able to serve our new Nuggets to eager guests despite any industry supply issues," a spokesperson told Insider.
