- Federal prosecutors accused the disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly with bribing an Illinois government employee to acquire a fake ID for 15-year-old Aaliyah.
- The ID falsely listed the late signer as 18 years old, according to The Times. She married Kelly in September 1994.
- The marriage was annulled in February of the following year after reports of the falsified marriage license emerged.
- Over the past year, Kelly has faced multiple criminal charges in relation to sexual abuse of minors in several jurisdictions. However, Kelly's lawyer Steven Greenberg told The Times on Thursday that the bribery charge "does not appear to materially alter the landscape."
