Porsche is envisioning a powerfully electric future.

The storied German car brand unveiled the Mission X on Thursday, a radical statement about the future of both its brand and high-performance cars.

The Mission X is just a concept for now, but Porsche says if it makes it to production it will be the "fastest road-legal vehicle" around the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany.

Take a closer look at Porsche's vision of the future.

The Porsche Mission X is a two-seater in the vein of its previous beacon cars: the 959, the Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder.

"The Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts," Oliver Blume, chairman of the executive board of Porsche, said in a release.

Porsche hasn't trumpeted any tech specs yet, but has stated that it wants to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one horsepower per kilogram if it brings the car to production.

It also wants to incorporate dramatically improved charging performance with a 900-volt system that would be able to charge twice as fast as its current electric car, the Porsche Taycan.

The battery would be installed in the center of the car behind the seats, which would also center the car's weight and allow it to corner and turn more effectively.

The "Le Mans-style" doors open both forward and upward and are inspired by the Porsche 917 race car.

The vertical orientation of the LED headlights was inspired by racing cars like the Porsche 906 and 908. The structure also contains daytime running lights and turn indicators and when the lights turn on, Porsche says it looks like an eye blinking open.
