Ryanair needs to give its comms person a raise for this joke about Selena Gomez's so-called social media break

Whoever manages Ryanair's official account on X deserves a raise for this joke about Selena Gomez and her so-called social media break.

The 31-year-old "Only Murders in the Building" star returned to Instagram less than 24 hours after announcing on the platform that she'd be taking a step back from social media.

"I'm off social for a while. I'm focusing on what really matters," Gomez said on Wednesday in a caption accompanying an Instagram Stories video of her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, playing with two children.

But less than a day after she made that announcement, the star returned to the platform to share a photo of her and Gordon Ramsay to promote their new cooking video.

"@gordongram stepped into my kitchen and showed me how to make an amazing Breakfast Burger," Gomez said in an Instagram Stories post featuring a photo of her and the celebrity chef each holding half a burger.

People took to X to roast Gomez for her super short social-media break. Among those who had something to say, was, in a perhaps unlikely turn of events, Ryanair.

"If 'I'm never flying Ryanair ever again' was a person," someone from the budget airline's social media team wrote on X in response to a post about the star's return to Instagram.

Over the years, many passengers have taken to social media to vow that they will never again fly on the airline. Ryanair has a 4 out of 10 rating based on 2,246 reviews on Skytrax. But despite hashtags like #IhateRyanair, #BoycottRyanair, #ryanairareshit continuing to pop up on X, the airline's CEO Michael O'Leary has made it clear that they keep coming back.

In 2017 at a press conference, he was asked if he thought unsatisfied passengers would stop buying tickets. "Our booking engine is full of passengers who have sworn they will never fly with us again," O'Leary said per The Guardian.

The '"Single Soon" singer has taken multiple breaks from social media in the past year.

In February, Gomez said she would be going on a social media break during an Instagram Live, per a clip posted on X by Pop Base.

In October, she announced in an Instagram Story that she would be taking another break from social media due to the "horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world," per a screengrab from Entertainment Tonight.

Representatives for Gomez and Ryanair did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
