A woman was arrested after she was stopped from boarding a Spirit Airlines flight in Atlanta because she was "too intoxicated" and slapped a staff member, according to a number of media reports.

The woman was angry after being told she wouldn't be allowed to board a Spirit Airlines flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Gate E-3 on May 11, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

She then reportedly slapped the gate agent in the face and tried to push her way through boarding to get on the flight, per the news channel. Another local outlet, WSBTV, reported that an airport staff member told police they saw the woman punch the agent.

Officers were dispatched after hearing that a woman was "trying to push her way through the gates and onto the jet bridge," according to an incident report by Atlanta Police Department cited by The Independent.

The woman had been turned away because she was "too intoxicated," per The Independent.

Bodycam footage and images released by the police and posted by Fox 5 Atlanta shows a middle-aged woman, wearing a grey tank top with jeans, and a pink backpack.

Police can be seen detaining her in the clips, removing her backpack and a watch from her arms, and cuffing her hands behind her back.

She was taken to Clayton County Jail, per Fox5. While the gate agent was not seriously harmed during the incident, the woman was charged with simple assault, WSBTV reported.

Insider contacted Spirit Airlines and Atlanta International Airport for comment about the incident, but did not immediately hear back outside of regular business hours.

Another intoxicated Spirit Airlines passenger had to be physically removed from a flight by three police officers after acting aggressively on May 26, a viral TikTok video with three million views showed.

The woman can be seen in the video walking through the plane aisle, shouting, riling up other passengers, and arguing with them.
